The First Edition of the Traders and Travellers Connect

2 June 2023 – The launch edition of the SMME Traders Connect Newsletter is now available. This will be a quarterly publication which focuses on trader-related tax matters to create awareness and share relevant information to make it easier for traders to remain compliant.  In this edition we provide clarity and certainty for taxpayers and traders of their tax obligations, making it easy for taxpayers and traders to comply with their tax obligations.

Help-you-eFile (HYEF) unavailability on 3 June 2023

2 June 2023 – Achieving our Vision 2024 of a smart, modern SARS with unquestionable integrity that is trusted and admired is of paramount importance. Pivotal to the delivery of our vision are our digital platforms & technology infrastructure. In order to provide clarity & certainty, make it easy for taxpayers & traders to comply with their obligations and building public trust and confidence, our technology assets have to demonstrate the highest levels of availability, robustness and security.

Pursuant to our Vision and Strategic Objectives, which include modernising our systems to provide Digital and Streamlined online services, we are hard at work ensuring that our digital platforms & technology infrastructure are available, robust & secure, by performing regular upgrades, enhancements and maintenance.

In the light of the above, system upgrades are scheduled for Saturday 3 June and Help-you-eFile (HYEF) will be unavailable from 10:00 – 13:00.

Media statement – SARS appoints three deputy commissioners to strengthen leadership

2 June 2023 – SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter, today announced the appointment of 3 Deputy Commissioners, to strengthen his executive team within SARS. This follows an extensive executive search which resulted in the appointment of one internal candidate and two from private sector.  The appointment of Deputies is also one of the recommendations in the final report of the Commission of Inquiry into Tax Administration and Governance by SARS headed by Judge Robert Nugent.

Prepopulation of ITR12 Third Party Data in preparation for the opening of Filing Season 2023

1 June 2023 – Please be advised that in preparation for the opening of the Personal Income Tax Filing Season in July 2023, between the period of 2 June 2023 until the opening of Filing Season, there is a possibility that the prepopulated data reflecting within your Personal Income Tax or Provisional Tax returns requested via eFiling, the SARS Mobi application or via a SARS Branch Office during this period, will pre-populate but may not be comprehensive until Filing Season is officially opened to the public.

eFiling upgrade on 2 June 2023

Pursuant to our Vision and Strategic Objectives, which include modernising our systems to provide Digital and Streamlined online services, we are hard at work ensuring that our digital platforms & technology infrastructure are available, robust & secure, by performing regular upgrades, enhancements and maintenance.

In the light of the above, system upgrades are scheduled for Friday, 2 June from 18:00 until 22:00. During this time eFiling will be intermittently available.
