All relevant eFiling processes have been revised in their entireties to reflect current system functionalities.

Customs – Valuation of Exports

17 November 2023 – The client is no longer required to upload the certificate of accreditation and notify the Client Relationship Manager for prioritisation of a stopped consignment. The Customs Officer must validate the client’s accredited status on the SARS intranet for case to be prioritised.

Customs – SARS Digital platform upgrade on 18 November 2023

16 November 2023 – Achieving our Vision 2024 of a smart, modern SARS with unquestionable integrity that is trusted and admired is of paramount importance. Pivotal to the delivery of our vision are our digital platforms and technology infrastructure. To provide clarity and certainty, make it easy for taxpayers and traders to comply with their obligations and building public trust and confidence, our technology assets must demonstrate the highest levels of availability, robustness and security.

In accordance with our Vision and Strategic Objectives, which include modernising our systems to provide Digital and Streamlined online services, we are hard at work ensuring that our digital platforms and technology infrastructure are available, robust and secure, by performing regular upgrades, enhancements and maintenance.

Considering the above, SARS Digital platform upgrades are scheduled for Saturday, 18 November 2023 from 22h00 to 00h00.

Responses (CUSRES messages) to transactions submitted during this time will be delayed, however, arrival and exit management functions are available at land border posts for all released declarations and manifests.

Stakeholders are therefore urged to submit priority Goods Declarations (bills of entry) and Road Manifest by Saturday, 18 November 2023 @ 21h00.

Customs – South African Traveller Management System

13 November 2023 – As part of the Customs Modernisation Programme, Customs has implemented the South African Traveller Management System (SATMS) only at airports as the first phase of the project. The second phase included the implementation of the SATMS at sea and land ports, which has been finalised. The SATMS guide has been updated to include the application of the SATMS at sea and land ports.

Corporate Income Tax (CIT) guide and frequently asked questions

10 November 2023 – To simplify the completion of the Income Tax Return for Companies (ITR14), the external guide pertaining to the information required when completing the ITR14 has been updated to provide additional clarity.

Additional clarification provided in the external guide is in relation to the SARS Interest (s7E) deduction and the Share Register section. Information required when completing the SARS Interest (s7E) has been expounded upon. Additionally, the shortcomings pertaining to the Share Register and the interim solution have been communicated.

Furthermore, to address anticipated queries, frequently asked questions have been published on the Corporate Income Tax and Completing an ITR14 webpages.

Media release: SARS thanks millions of compliant taxpayers, whilst cautioning those who are non-compliant

7 November 2023 – The South African Revenue Service (SARS) thanks all non-provisional taxpayers who have fulfilled their legal obligations by filing their personal income tax (PIT) returns by the end of Filing Season. SARS also thanks taxpayers who made outstanding payments that  were due.

As in previous years, SARS is pleased at the continuous improvement in compliance levels for Individuals. We believe that most taxpayers are honest and want to do the right thing by meeting their legal obligations. In this respect, SARS had received a total of 7 million returns from non-provisional taxpayers, compared to 6 million last year.

SARS appointed Third-Party external debt collectors

2 November 2023 – SARS has appointed Third-Party external debt collectors according to the advertised tender (RFP 45/2021) to assist with the collection of long-outstanding debt owed by taxpayers where no active payment or payment arrangements have been made.
